For a friend or relative asked to officiate a wedding, usually for the first time. It helps you write a ceremony about this couple, not a template with their names swapped in, and then run it.
What is in it
- A Ceremony Builder in Word: twelve parts of a ceremony (welcome, remembering, the couple's story, a reading, the declaration, vows, rings, a unity ritual, the pronouncement and more), each in two to four versions: secular, faith-light, warm or playful. Choose one, delete the rest and fill in the brackets.
- A worked example: a complete ceremony for a fictional couple, so you can see how the parts read once filled in.
- Readings in full where they are public domain (Shakespeare, Elizabeth Barrett Browning, Walt Whitman). Scripture is cited, not reprinted, so the family can use its own translation.
- A ten-page guide: the questions to ask the licensing office, a two-page couple questionnaire, a ceremony map with typical timings, a timing worksheet, a rehearsal run sheet, delivery notes, printable cue cards and a licence-signing checklist.
What it is not
It is not legal advice, and it does not make anyone eligible to officiate or make a marriage valid. Who may officiate, what must be said and who signs are decided by the office that issues the marriage licence, and they differ from place to place. Page 2 of the guide is the list of questions to ask them.
Tested in Word
The builder was opened and saved in Microsoft Word for Windows (version 16) on 26 September 2026. Google Docs, Pages and Word for Mac have not been tested. The guide is a standard PDF in US Letter.
What you may do with it
Use the files to write and deliver ceremonies you officiate, and give the finished script to the couple. No resale or redistribution of the blank files.
